The Top 5 Healthiest Seeds

The Top 5 Healthiest Seeds

The Top 5 Healthiest Seeds

I previously posted my list of different types of nuts that are healthy and nutritious. Like nuts, seeds are a vital part of our diet. Seeds are high in fiber, vitamin E and monounsaturated fats that can help keep our heart healthy and our body disease free.

Image

Healthy seeds are also great sources of protein, minerals, zinc and other life-enhancing nutrients. Numerous studies have shown that different types of seeds and nuts can actually prevent weight gain, the development of heart disease and the accumulation of LDL cholesterol.

If you are going to add seeds to your diet, I would recommend that you eat only organic seeds, in their raw state. I personally try to avoid irradiated or roasted seeds, and stick with raw seeds. Here is my list of the five healthiest seeds you should add to your diet. (In no particular order)

Sex after the age of 50

Sex after the age of 50

When it comes to aging, many people make the false assumption that sex is more difficult and not as fulfilling or exciting. Those assumptions are absolutely incorrect, as youth has no superiority over senior sex; in fact, seniors do have an edge when it comes to great sex, as they typically have a stronger sense of self and are more at ease with their sexuality in general.

With a greater awareness by many baby boomers regarding the need for healthy living, there has been an increase in better understanding of the importance of a natural diet and exercise in order to achieve longevity and a high quality of life. Thus, seniors increasingly demand foods that are organic, non-GMO, pesticide free and animal friendly along with other health products.

Such things all influence healthy sexual performance and satisfaction, and for most seniors, there is a better understanding of what is important when it comes to pleasure with regard to physical, mental and emotional aspects. The seniors who have great sex are typically also those who take care of their health and their relationships, as they understand their interconnectedness.

Senior sexual health concerns

Unfortunately, health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and other chronic illnesses can negatively impact sexual performance, and seniors are often the hardest hit. In addition, medication side effects are responsible for a great deal of sexual health complications. These issues are why seniors must be educated and communicate with their healthcare providers so that they can effectively cope with such challenges in order to live a more empowered life.

Sexual health issues can deeply affect both men and women. For example, when a man experiences erection issues and loss of libido, it can be an indicator of health issues as well as seriously affect confidence levels and self-esteem. Women can also be negatively impacted by such issues, e.g., loss of libido, vaginal dryness and clitoral desensitization. Furthermore, these symptoms can make sex painful for women, thus making it even more difficult to address.

Sexual obstacles for women over fifty

Aging brings a variety of physical changes to a woman's body; even if she takes excellent care of herself, she may find that menopause can wreak havoc on her well-being. There are a variety of natural ways to overcome the symptoms of menopause; however, it is important to note that there are more than just hormonal changes that can be causing symptoms. Working with a healthcare provider to determine the cause of symptoms is a great place to start.

Examples of health issues that menopause can contribute to:

• Hormonal imbalances of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone
• Insulin imbalance
• Difficulty with thyroid function
• Poor adrenal health

These changes can cause common symptoms such as:

• Fatigue
• Mood changes
• Vaginal dryness
• Joint discomfort
• Loss of vaginal elasticity
• Hot flashes
• Sleep difficulties
• Weight gain
• Difficulty concentrating
• Digestive discomfort
• Thinning hair
• Low libido

Sexual obstacles for men over fifty

Males also go through a variety of changes as they age; just as women go through menopause, men go through andropause. For men, the biggest change is seen through the decrease of testosterone production and bioavailability. These changes typically happen gradually over time, beginning at the age of thirty. By the time a man reaches the age of seventy, his testosterone levels may be lowered by as much as 50% of their original levels. Read more

How to Get Rid of Gingivitis – Natural Remedies

How to Get Rid of Gingivitis – Natural Remedies

According to the CDC Division of Oral Health, nearly 50% of American adults and more than 70% over the age of 65 suffer from gum disease, also known as periodontitis or periodontal disease. Gum pain and the effect it has on eating aren’t the only concerns. Studies have shown gum disease is linked to heart and vascular disease. But, there’s good news! You can effectively support your oral health at home and avoid suffering from gum disease.

Image

Symptoms of Gum Disease

Red, swollen gums, or gingivitis, is commonly the first symptom. You may know this condition by the very sensitive, sore gums that may bleed when you brush and floss your teeth. Constant bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth may also indicate periodontal disease. Symptoms of full onset of gum disease include pain while chewing, gums pulling away from your teeth, pus between your gums and teeth, or a loose tooth or teeth.

Causes of Gum Disease and Gingivitis

Poor dental hygiene is the number one factor that leads to gum disease. It allows bacterial growth in your mouth, and while some bacteria are friendly, many are not. Most of the sugar-loaded, processed foods we eat encourage the growth of these ‘bad’ bacteria in the plaque that forms between your teeth and gums. Without proper brushing and flossing, the bacteria can cause inflammation and if left untreated, it can lead to the erosion of the gum tissue and bone in your jaw.

While oral hygiene is the number one determining factor for gum health, some conditions may increase the risk. Hormonal changes, like those during pregnancy, puberty, and menopause can increase gum sensitivity. The high blood sugar of diabetes weakens the immune system and allows bad bacteria to take hold. Smoking damages gum tissue reducing its ability to recover. And if your family has a history of gum disease, you may be genetically inclined to it, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get it; you just need to take care of your teeth and gums.

Natural Home Remedies for Gum Health

Natural home remedies have healed gum disease for centuries. Here are five simple home remedies you can start using today:

Salt Water

Salt water kills bacteria and cleanses the infected area of the gums. Mix 1 Tbsp of sea salt in a cup of warm water. Swish it around in your mouth for a minute or two and then spit it out.

Sage

The anti-inflammatory and cleansing properties of sage have made it a home remedy for centuries. Chop up a fresh sage leaf or take a pinch of dried sage, rub it on the infected area of your gum and then pack it on the infected area. Leave it for 2-3 minutes. Mix in sea salt with the sage for additional cleaning.

Turmeric

The curcumin in turmeric possesses powerful anti-inflammatory effects and turmeric also has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. This cleanses the wound and encourages healing. Combine turmeric powder with water or mash up some fresh turmeric root. Brush this paste onto your teeth and gums with a soft toothbrush.

Turmeric: Potent, Liquid, Organic

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient technique has been used for centuries to keep the teeth and gums healthy. It uses oil to cleanse infected areas and help the gums heal. Take a tablespoon of sesame, coconut, or sunflower oil and swish it around your mouth for a couple minutes, focusing on the infected gum. Spit out (do not swallow!) and rinse immediately with warm water.

Baking Soda

This may be the simplest preventative solution around. You could use a baking soda paste regularly instead of toothpaste, but be careful–baking soda is highly abrasive and should be used gently in combination with olive oil. If your gums do get infected, rather than brushing it on, make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it to your gums. Do this for 2 minutes, two to three times a week.

Ozonated Olive Oil Boosts Oral Health

In some cases, unhealthy gums may need a more powerful response and ozonated olive oil can deliver powerful healing right at your home. [1] Olive oil helps clean and supply essential vitamins to the gums, and studies show topically applied ozone acts fast to improve wound healing and gum injuries without side effects. [2] [3] Research finds it is effective against swollen gums and the bleeding gums. In one clinical trial, patients using ozonated oil healed “significantly” faster than the control group that used normal healing protocols. [4] And take it from one of my clients, ozonated oil works!

Eliminate hypertension and its deadly side effects naturally

Eliminate hypertension and its deadly side effects naturally

Are you sitting down? This statistic will blow your mind: About 70 million people, in the United States, have high blood pressure – that's 1 in every 3 adults, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. To make matters worse, the financial costs associated with hypertension is a staggering $46 billion per year – with no successful solution offered by Western medicine except 'take your medicine.'

On the next NaturalNews Talk Hour, you'll learn about the best foods (and supplements) to keep blood pressure normal; how to stabilize hormones – which keep us feeling good plus an important discussion about how kidney health affects blood pressure levels.

Warning to hypertensive patients: Western medicine has totally lost touch with reality

Allow me to explain: High blood pressure is a serious health condition which can lead to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke - two leading causes of death throughout the world. And, even though, Western medicine admits that 'healthy living habits' can help to prevent hypertension – they continue to focus on toxic medications that trigger nasty side effects.

For example, diuretics are designed to flush water and sodium from the body and typically cause erection problems, weakness, leg cramps and fatigue. Beta-blockers slow down heart function and can cause depression and sleep disorders. My point is simple: How can anyone live a 'healthy lifestyle' while taking these drugs? (It's impossible!)

On the next NaturalNews Talk Hour, Jonathan Landsman and Dr. Daniel Cobb take a fresh 'new' look at the issue of hypertension and provide a much safer way to eliminate the problem. After listening to this program – you'll feel a greater sense of control over your life and learn how to naturally eliminate high blood pressure.

Does your doctor know how to naturally lower blood pressure?

If you're concerned about hypertension – ask your doctor about:

1. Vitamin D: According to Dr. Michael Holick, a professor of medicine, physiology and biophysics at Boston University School of Medicine, 'vitamin D may lower blood pressure by causing blood vessels to relax, allowing for more and easier blood flow.'

2. Omega-3 fatty acids: A randomized, controlled study by researchers at the Department of Medicine, Maulana Azad Medical College and Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi, found that low doses of omega-3 fatty acids, along with a reduction of omega-6 fatty acids, could help to reduce the effects of hypertension.

3. Water: According to Julian Whitaker, M.D., 'chronic dehydration also can be a cause of high blood pressure by making the body hold onto sodium. Make a point of drinking a minimum of eight and preferably 10 to 12 glasses of pure, filtered water every day. This surprisingly simple step can truly make a difference in blood pressure control.'

If your physician is unable to talk about natural remedies for chronic disease – find another doctor. Read more

How to Get Rid of Sunburn and Sunspots – Ozonated Olive Oil

How to Get Rid of Sunburn and Sunspots – Ozonated Olive Oil

Few experiences are as relaxing as getting out for a walk or a trip to the beach on a bright, sunny day. But despite our best intentions, it is common to suffer from a painful, itchy sunburn. Effective protection against ultraviolet (UV) exposure requires knowledge of what to look for in sunscreens. Without effective protection, sunspots are a very common result of skin damaged by overexposure to the sun’s rays. So, here are facts and natural remedies you can use to soothe your skin and help with the discoloration that excess UV exposure causes.

Image

8 Facts About Sunburn and Skin Sunspots

Here’s some facts about sunburn and skin sunspots that you may need to know in order to avoid their occurrence:

Damage Occurs From UVA and UVB

There are two bands of ultraviolet radiation that affect your skin – UVA (Ultraviolet A) and UVB (Ultraviolet B). When buying sunscreen, look for labels that indicate protection from both UVB and UVA rays. Generally, most sunscreens that include the term “broad-spectrum protection” offer defense against both.

UVB Rays May Be Good For You

UVB rays are also known as the ‘tanning’ rays. In the right amount, they’re good for you as they penetrate into your epidermis, the top layer of skin, to stimulate vitamin Dhttp://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=33209 production and produce melanin, the skin pigment that tans and protects your skin.

Excessive Ray Exposure Leads to Damage

Get too much UVB and you get sunburned. Frequent burning does more than make you blister and peel. It can lead to squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, two of the most common forms of skin cancer.

UVA Rays Are the Most Damaging

UVA rays penetrate deep into your dermis, or lower layer of skin, and overexposure has been linked to the deadly form of skin cancer melanoma.

Know SPF Language

SPF tells you how much longer your skin will take to burn. An SPF 20 sunscreen takes 20 times longer to redden than skin without sunscreen.

Be Discriminatory Toward Certain Sunscreens

Avoid sunscreens that contain toxic chemicals, such as: Avobenzone, Fragrance, Oxybenzone, Parabens, Vitamin A in the form of retinyl palmitate (when exposed to UV rays, it releases skin-damaging free radicals).

Look for Sunspots

Sunspots occur on areas of skin regularly exposed to the sun and may appear darker or lighter than your normal skin tone. They can also be flat or raised, may cause a slight itching, and can have a scaly appearance. Read more

Garlic naturally obliterates antibiotic-resistant urinary infections where Big Pharma fails

Garlic naturally obliterates antibiotic-resistant urinary infections where Big Pharma fails

Besides being one of my favorite recipe ingredients, I've always been a firm believer in the medicinal properties of garlic. An indispensable flavor in many foods, garlic also provides a wide range of health benefits in terms of prevention as well as treatment.

Garlic has been used for thousands of years in treating dozens of illnesses and as a general health-boosting dietary ingredient. Modern science has shown that its chemical compounds have a measurable effect in fighting bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa.

A recent study carried out by the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences in India and published in the Pertanika Journal of Tropical Agricultural Science found that garlic can also be an effective treatment for the antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria involved in many cases of urinary tract infection (UTI).

According to the researchers, more than half of the 166 bacteria strains found in the urine of people with a UTI proved to be highly resistant to antibiotics. However, 82 percent of the resistant strains were wiped out by a simple garlic extract.

In other words, the bacteria strains that have developed a resistance to antibiotics can be treated with a completely natural compound that has no side effects, costs almost nothing and will not create "resistant strains."

The results are significant not only because garlic could indeed prove to be an effective alternative to increasingly ineffective antibiotics for treating UTIs and other conditions, but also because they illustrate an increasing recognition of natural medicine's relevance and validity among the medical establishment.

The authors of the study noted:

The results of the present study support the use of natural products as affordable effective substitutes and/or additives for reducing the disease burden and overall cost of disease management.

Drug-based treatments for many illnesses have shown to be either limited in effectiveness or completely ineffective when compared to natural treatments. Many drugs have side effects that are nearly as bad as the disease itself.

Western medicine has allowed itself to become so influenced by Big Pharma that it is no longer an institution that promotes health and healing. Instead, it now appears to exist almost solely to generate profits for giant pharmaceutical companies.

It is encouraging to see scientific studies that focus on the benefits of natural treatments. There is a place for pharmaceutical medicine, but I believe Nature provides a treatment or cure for almost every human illness or disorder.

I also believe that natural foods are a major factor in preventive health and that garlic is one of the most important medicinal plants found in nature.

Natural Laxatives: Abdominal Massage

Natural Laxatives: Abdominal Massage

Constipation is a pain, literally and figuratively. Over-the-counter laxatives are often pushed as the quick fix, but they’re not without their problems. Even some so-called natural laxatives can cause pain and side effects. Herbal laxatives can produce unpleasant cramping. Stimulant laxatives are just harsh and require that you set aside your entire day in order to manage the violent effects they produce. What if there was a way to relieve constipation and it was inexpensive, non-invasive, free of nasty side effects, and you could perform it yourself? There is, allow me to introduce you to abdominal massage.

Image

What is Abdominal Massage?

Abdominal massage is fairly self explanatory: the abdomen and intestinal areas are massaged with different motions and pressure (always comfortable, never painful). The massage action naturally helps to stimulate peristalsis, decrease colonic transit time and increase the frequency of bowel movements. It also reduces the discomfort typically associated with constipation. Abdominal massage has no adverse side effects and you can easily do it yourself. [1]

How Effective is Abdominal Massage as a Natural Laxative?

Abdominal massage has been used to relieve symptoms of constipation since the 19th century and its popularity has varied over the years. It is what it is and not subject to much “scientific breakthrough” or the hype that comes along with it. That’s unfortunate, because research all over the world has echoed with resounding agreement that abdominal massage can offer relief to persons suffering from constipation. A study in Korea found that abdominal massage was effective for constipation management. [2] In Brazil, researchers discovered that combining isometric training of the abdominal muscles, breathing exercises, and abdominal massage can help increase defecation frequency. [3] It’s also been found that performing the massage with essential oils of rosemary, lemon, or peppermint offers an additional aromatherapeutic benefit and helps to improve constipation symptoms even more than massage alone. [4]

Even the elderly, who often suffer from chronic, debilitating constipation, may find relief with this gentle, natural method. The Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC reported a case of a constipated 85-year-old woman who had unsuccessfully turned to stool softeners for relief. Doctors instructed her to perform a daily, 10-minute abdominal massage at home. When she was reexamined, she reported that her bowel frequency and function had returned to normal and she no longer had to strain or use unpleasant digital evacuation methods. In her case, abdominal massage worked very well. [5]

Abdominal Massage: Try It!

There really is very little question about it, abdominal massage helps to decrease the severity of constipation and helps to increase bowel movements. But, unlike laxatives, produces no negative side effects. In fact, it can be downright pleasant. Sweden’s UmeĆ„ University asked nine adults who were receiving abdominal massage for constipation to weigh in on the experience. Although the subjects reported some initial comfort adjustments (mainly with having someone else massage their abdomen), they described the experience as not only effective in helping to relieve constipation, but also as pleasant and a well-being booster. [6]

Has abdominal massage helped to relieve your symptoms of constipation? Please leave a comment and share your experience!
